All ahead full: Dewolf sinks rivals’ chances, cruises to victory and captures third career win

Jun 25, 2026 – In Race 3 at Woodbine on June 215th, Canuck Racing Club’s Dewolf took on five other three-year-olds and older horses going one mile on the inner turf for a $63,800 purse.

Dewolf entered this race as the clear public choice, listed at 1-2 on the board before ultimately going off as the 0.75 favourite in a six-horse field.

Coming in, it seemed that the best version of this race would involve Dewolf settling behind the first flight, saving enough ground in a measured route trip, and starting to build momentum before the race turned into a short sprint home.

Instead, Dewolf broke well from post 3 and immediately put himself into the race under jockey Christoff Douglas. Bankingonamiracle showed speed inside and held a narrow early advantage on the rail, but Douglas did not let that rival get away. He had Dewolf flanking the leader on the outside through the first turn, travelling comfortably while applying steady pressure.

The opening quarter went in 23.71, and rather than taking back to settle into the trip we had expected, Douglas allowed Dewolf to go on with it. Coming out of the first turn and into the backstretch, Dewolf began pressing Bankingonamiracle in earnest, then simply took the race over.

By the half-mile marker, after a 47.56 half, Dewolf had opened up by three lengths. While moving that early can be a risk if the horse is doing too much too soon in a one-mile turf race, Dewolf was a horse travelling well and carrying himself with purpose.

By the three-quarter call in 1:11.42, the race had already tilted heavily in his direction. Dewolf was 4.5 lengths in front, and the field was being asked to chase him rather than the other way around. Around the far turn, Douglas kept him rolling along unopposed, and Dewolf never gave the others a chance to get back into the race.

Turning for home, he still had a 4.5-length advantage. Awesome Rainbow was best of the rest and tried to finish on, while Holiday Snooze and Bankingonamiracle battled for the minor shares behind him, but the race was over as a win threat. Dewolf stayed on strongly through the lane, “just cruising” – as track announcer Robert Geller put it, later adding that Dewolf  “could not have been more impressive” as he won by 5.25 lengths and stopped the clock at 1:37.20.

Dewolf is now 3-3-2 in 15 starts with $233,100 USD in purse earnings.
