Behind the name
The name Bowman’s Run is a tribute to the winningest coach in NHL history and the “greatest coach ever in professional sport”. In a league that has an average coaching tenure of 2.4 years, Scotty Bowman’s run is legendary. Born in Montreal, Bowman by far holds NHL records for most everything: most Stanley Cups, most games coached, most career wins, most regular season victories, and most playoff appearances in a record 30 seasons behind the bench.
Bowman won five Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens. His first in 1973 was followed by a historic championship run of four consecutive cups in 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979: a record that was later matched by the New York Islanders but has never been beaten. In the 1976-77 season, Bowman coached a record 60 wins in 80 games at the helm of a team regarded as one of the best ever assembled. Bowman’s run that year included a 21-game undefeated streak in a season where the Canadiens lost only 8 times (a modern record) while outscoring their opponents by 216 goals (also a record). The following season, Bowman coached a record-breaking run of 28 consecutive games without a defeat (23 wins, 5 ties) which still ranks #2 all-time in NHL history.
Bowman won his sixth cup with the 1992 Pittsburgh Penguins. The next season the team went on a run of 17 consecutive wins (still an NHL record) in a 119-point regular season that remains a franchise record. He won three more cups coaching the Detroit Red Wings and also earned cups with the 2010, 2013, and 2015 Chicago Blackhawks as an executive.
“Bowman is a brilliant coach, the best of his time,” wrote Hall of Famer Ken Dryden in his book The Game. “His is a life that no one else will live again.”Scotty Bowman is the only head coach in the history of all four major North American sports to ever win a championship with three teams. Sports Illustrated dubbed the two-time Jack Adams Award winner “the greatest coach ever in professional sport”. Bowman was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the Order of Hockey in Canada, Canada’s Walk of Fame, and the Order of Canada.
About the sire
Multiple Graded Stakes Winner Audible was sold for $500,000 as a 2-year old, earned more than $2 million on the track, and finished third in the Kentucky Derby. Deemed one of the most consistent 3-year-olds of his generation, Audible used the speed of his sire line and the class of his deep female family to finish on the board in five stakes appearances. He won the Florida Derby with authority and has held the fastest winning time for the Holy Bull G3 race at Gulfstream since 2013.
Audible is the son of Into Mischief, a 3x Top North American sire with progeny earnings in excess of $24 million. Into Mischief has sired 110 black type winners and 6 champions including Authentic and Gamine, both purchased for their owners by Canuck Racing Club managing partner Donato Lanni.
