July 29, 2023 – In her first-ever race, Canuck Racing Club’s Vandoo registered her first win despite being the sole filly in a field of geldings and colts in race #5 on Saturday at Woodbine. With last year’s Sovereign award-winning Outstanding Jockey of the Year Kazushi Kimura in the irons, Vandoo was best into stride out of the gate and led the whole race right up until Chasing Bourbon caught her at the wire for a rare dead heat finish.

The result added yet another first to outstanding trainer Kevin Attard’s incredible run of success with first-time starters. In addition to being the only girl taking on the boys, unlike her competitors, it was also the first time Vandoo had ever gone 5 furlongs after having previously breezed up to 4 furlongs in distance. What a tremendous and exciting start for Vandoo (Souper Speedy-Mona Moon)… and the Canuck Racing Club.
