May 10, 2025 – After filly Sinclairity won last week to kick off Canuck Racing Club’s 2025 racing season, next up from the racing stable was Hoodless, a 3-year-old filly sired by Frac Daddy out of Rockyroadto Dublin. Race 3 on Woodbine’s Saturday card marked her third start and first attempt at a six furlong race.

Named after outspoken Canadian educator Adelaide Hoodless, the filly came into this match-up as a heavy favourite taking on five other 3-year-old Ontario-sired fillies also looking for their first win. The odds were almost certainly bolstered by the combination of Canuck Racing Club’s Sovereign award and Breeders’ Cup winning trainer Kevin Attard combing with red hot jockey Pietro Moran once again the day before the latter’s 20th birthday,

Entering the race with 7-5 morning line odds, Hoodless‘ live odds went as high as even money (1:1) before she finally went off at 6-5. Breaking well from the #4 gate, she took charge early to set the pace. The trainer’s call to run her with blinkers proved prophetic as three competitors on her inside exchanged bumps in the early going while Hoodless kept her eyes on the road and powered forward free of the distraction. Moran did a terrific job of controlling the pace while Hoodless remained more than happy to respond whenever he asked her to adjust to maintain her frontrunner status.

Up the backstretch, the pair shifted inwards and edged clear of pursuers Serious Green and Codicia Por Vida seemingly posed to make strong bids. Approaching the final turn, the leader was more than willing to answer her rivals’ renewed attempts to close the gap. At the top of the stretch, Hoodless channelled her namesake, transformed the balance of the contest into an educational field trip, and proceeded to take her competitors to school. On the day, they were simply no match as Canuck Racing Club’s filly kicked away and extended her advantage to seven lengths crossing the wire under only moderate urging by her jockey.

Post race, Pietro Moran shared that it was his first ever “hand ride” confirming that he never needed to use his crop in the race. Travelling six furlongs in 1:11:02, Hoodless was all business and just wanted to run.
