Nov 28, 2025 – Sluggernaut delivered a decisive first career victory Friday at Woodbine, rolling to a 6 1/2-length win in race 3 for trainer Kevin Attard, jockey Rafael Hernandez and Canuck Racing Club. The gray 3-year-old son of Frac Daddy was making his fourth career start and took full advantage of class relief in a maiden claiming event contested over 1 1/16 miles on the all-weather surface.
From post 9, Sluggernaut settled into midfield while racing wide into the first turn, then advanced steadily down the backstretch while remaining in the clear. The race developed honestly up front, but Hernandez had the Canuck runner travelling comfortably throughout. Still four wide around the far turn, Sluggernaut loomed outside the leaders, pounced at the top of the stretch, and quickly separated from the field. He stopped the clock in 1:48.13 after taking command in upper stretch and drawing away with authority.
The result mattered not only because it was a breakthrough win, but because of how it came together. Sluggernaut showed he could settle, handle the route, sustain an outside move, and finish the race off strongly once spotted at the proper level. Coming off tougher maiden company earlier in the season, the partnership entered this race looking to see whether the gelding could put his stamina and rhythm to use against softer opposition. He answered that question clearly.
On performance, the win looked like a genuine step forward. Sluggernaut was heavily backed at 1.20-1 and ran like the controlling horse in the lane, validating his support with a professional, visually strong effort.
