July 25, 2025 – Following up on two consecutive wins with a disappointing showing in her first-ever attempt on turf, Canuck Racing Club’s 3YO filly Hoodless excelled in a 6-furlong field trip in race 3 at Woodbine on Thursday. Breaking from the gate once again under jockey Pietro Moran after a disappointing showing in her first-ever attempt on turf, Hoodless returned to the grass and successfully applied the lessons she had learned, passing with flying colours as she moved smartly to the front of the class.
Hoodless and Haley’s Honor had the best starts of the field, both breaking alertly from the gate ahead of the pack. While he fruitlessly engaged in an early speed duel on Hoodless in his previous outing, Pietro was content to let the loose leader go this time. While the rest of the field spread out along the backside behind them, the duo shadowed the frontrunner, stalking patiently and staying within reach even as the pacesetter upped the already quick tempo in the inner turn.
Rounding the bend, Hoodless and Moran edged up and began reeling in the favourite at the five sixteenths pole. Finding himself with his choice of lane entering the stretch, the young jockey glided into the four path just outside of the leader and the sprint was on.
At the 330-yard mark, this race looked very much up for grabs. At 220 yards, Haley’s Honor was under attack on two sides and Hoodless edged to the front of a battling trio. At about 200 yards out, Canuck Racing Club’s filly dug in and extended both her stride and lead. As Moran kept her to task, the eventual second place finisher Genius of Love could not match strides. With a safe hold on victory as she crossed the wire, track announcer Robert Geller later commented that Hoodless won “with authority” by 1 3/4 lengths.
